Topic: Supporting the Healing and Resurgence of Indigenous Nations through Birth Work
The ongoing identification of hundreds of unmarked children’s graves on former Indian Residential School sites across what is now called Canada has brought renewed attention to the Indigenous experience of intergenerational trauma caused by the policies, processes and practices of colonialism. Equally as important as the truth of intergenerational trauma is the power of intergenerational resilience and strength that lives in our Indigenous communities. Join Cultural Birth Helper & Indigenous Birth of Alberta Aunty, Lori Calkins, for a conversation about supporting the healing and resurgence of Indigenous nations through birthwork. She will share about her work providing support for Indigenous families in and around their birthing time from an Indigenous worldview.
There is an opportunity for ‘social time’ in break-out rooms following the service – a time to connect with friends old and new.
Our 2021-22 Westwood Theme is LIVING OUR UU PRINCIPLES. October is “The 8th Principle”.
