From the Minister’s Home

From the Minister’s Home … April 2020

 Beloveds,

How are you doing?

School’s out, many are unable to work, and those who are working are providing ‘essential services’ – which puts them at higher risk. And anyone who was struggling before COVID-19 arrived, finds themselves in even more precarious circumstances. Our church buildings are closed … and it has become our duty to stay home. These are huge changes and trying times for everyone!

In response, we are doing our best to remain connected in new ways:

  • We just celebrated our 1st ever on-line Zoom service – both Edmonton congregations together.
  • We have a growing schedule of drop-in Zoom ‘Coffee Hours’ , Childrens’ programming and  some of our regular mid-week activities . check the website calendar for details.
  • Folks are reaching out through on-line platforms and especially by telephone – phone calls are definitely ‘in again’
  • Keep in mind that you can call, text or email me – Rev Anne – any time. You don’t have to wait for office hours. If I’m free, I’ll pick up. Otherwise, I’ll respond asap. (If it’s Tuesday, and it’s not urgent, I’ll wait until Wednesday to respond)

Going forward, your Sunday Services Teams have agreed to hold an “All Edmonton UUs Service” once a month, and separate Westwood and UCE services on other weeks. (Both congregations have robust schedules and booking for the next couple of months – and we don’t want to disappoint any of our speakers or musicians!)

Our next joined service will be “Easter Spirit – Open Mind”, Sunday April 12, 2020. Last Sunday, we maxed out at 100 logins (WOW!) and have since upgraded our Zoom limit, so that shouldn’t be a problem going forward.

Westwood and UCE are making a concerted effort to invite all people into our services, our gatherings, our hearts and our minds. Perhaps, when the doors open again, we will have created an even larger, more inclusive and accessible, shared UU Edmonton community.

Please stay home and stay safe.

And if you are out there, serving us in the community, know that we are immensely grateful – and here to support you any way that is permissible.

In love and solidarity,

Rev Anne
