From the Minister’s Study…

March 2018: Serve

This month our theme is SERVE – as we continue to explore our Sunday morning candle affirmation:

May the light of these candles inspire us to use our power –

To heal and not to harm, to help and not to hinder,

To SERVE the spirit of truth in loving affection and trusting hope.

A couple of conversations this past month reminded me it might be a good time to review some of the ways a minister might SERVE a congregation (as a whole, or as individuals).

It’s easy to see that the Westwood minister attends a lot of meetings and speaks on about half of the Sundays – but what else do they do? And when is it ok to call?

Ministers spend a lot of time learning about effective, current, & varied tools (or methods) to support spiritual, psychological, physical & family health. I can help with spiritual discernment, family systems issues &/or problem solving, can refer you to more appropriate professionals or programs when the challenge is beyond my skill set, &/or offer compassionate accompaniment through a difficult time:

  • If you are going through a transition (or want to) & wonder about options…
  • If you are struggling to find peace with any aspect of your well-being…
  • If could use a listening ear as you discern next steps…
  • If you suspect someone is ‘in trouble’ (including if that someone is you) …
  • If you are looking for a referral (even if you don’t know ‘to whom’) …
  • If you are facing family, work, health, housing, aging or spiritual decisions and might benefit from an impartial reflective conversation…
  • If Westwood isn’t the right fit for you – but you don’t know where else to go…
  • If you would like help designing (&/or carrying out) a ritual, to mark a life passage…
  • If you could use a call, or a hospital visit, or a chat, or an intervention…
  • If you just want to check in, say hi, or send a friendly message…

… don’t hesitate to give me a call … send me a text … or wave your arms in the air as I walk by.

It is ALWAYS ok to ask. If I’m not the right person for the job – I’ll help you find who is.

In love and service,

Rev Anne
