Offsite – Civic Academy – Greater Edmonton Alliance

Currently, the Greater Edmonton Alliance, of which Westwood is a member, is focused on Alberta’s Referendum set for October 19. We will be examining how the Referendum will shape provincial direction on immigration, First Nations’ Rights, the constitution and our relationship with the rest of Canada.

The Referendum questions would have us believe that the main issues causing friction in Albertan’s lives are immigrants and Ottawa. The Greater Edmonton Alliance is hosting a listening campaign aimed at understanding the deeper issues in our lives and building relationships to act for equity, dignity, and the common good of all. Our meetings, which we are calling Civic Academies, are open to the public. A number of these are being organized across Edmonton. Westwood is involved in the one scheduled for the evening of Sunday, September 20.

Civic Academies are town hall-style events aimed at developing civic education on an issue (in this case, the Referendum), building relationships, and listening for stories of pressures in peoples’ lives while encouraging public action.

You are invited to join fellow Westwoodians along with many other individuals for an interactive, participatory program designed to build our collective power, encourage dialogue, and create direction for our Alliance. The Alliance is a coalition of religious organizations, unions and others committed to working for the Common Good.

We will be meeting at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 10037 84 Ave NW on Sunday, September 20 from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
