Here are some of the highlights from Westwood’s Board meeting on Wednesday, May 20th over Zoom.
- Westwood hosted a Tony Turner & Maria Dunn concert in early May, co-run by Unitarian Church of Edmonton and Westwood. About 70 people showed up here for a great evening of good humour and great music. Many thanks to the organizers and volunteers for making this wonderful event happen!
-
Greater Edmonton Alliance (GEA) – Westwood’s representative, Margret, along with Mitch, Daryl and Jacqueline, attended the May 5th assembly of the GEA. The alliance is examining the list of questions that will be posed at the October provincial referendum and exploring ways of highlighting real stories that show the potential harmful effects that the referendum outcome could have, especially on marginalized people.
- As part of this, Mitch has committed to attending an upcoming 5-day program run by the Industrial Areas Foundation which aims to give people the tools for “understanding the craft, theory and practices of community organising; power, leadership, interest, relationships and organisation.” Mitch also received Board approval to cover some of the costs of attending this course through the Conferences and Leadership Development budget line.

Compassion Bank – Sara has made the decision to step down from the Compassion Bank, which she initiated 11 years ago and has headed up ever since. With deep gratitude, the Board acknowledges Sara’s work and dedication to making this program such an important part of Westwood community life. THANK YOU SARA! We want the Bank to continue operating, so please let a Board member know if you are able to help.
-
Please welcome Jolene Bobinski to Westwood as our new Program Facilitator. Her main task will be working with the Sunday Morning Team to help in continuing to bring interesting and engaging speakers and musicians to Westwood services.

The Board welcomed Daryl Williams back to membership.

We also acknowledged, with sorrow, the passing of Ed Paproski.

Plans for the Board Kickstart weekend June 5 & 6 were finalized. This post-AGM event works as a social and handover event between outgoing and incoming board members.
