Connecting Through Song with Karen Porkka

Westwood’s Musical Series featuring local musicians continues as we look forward to connecting through singing.

Karen Porkka, originally from southern Alberta, has made Edmonton her home for the past 30+ years as a musician, vocalist, composer, improviser, music educator and choir director. During her artistic career, Karen and her groups have collaborated with artists from other disciplines including dance, theatre, film and visual arts.  Community singing has become a focus of her musical offerings. She is the founder of the Vocal Improvisation Network of Edmonton (V.I.N.E.), as well as, a non auditioned community choir called the Soul Song Circle Singers and continues the work of Bobby McFerrin by offering community improvised singing with a monthly gathering of Circle Singing.

NOTE: this is the Second Sunday of the month and all are invited to stay after for a  potluck lunch.
